In the first ten months of the year, God's Economy's What's the Buzz? has been busy. Four schools in the metropolitan Baltimore area, along with concerned God's Economy donors, raised over $20,000 toward the efforts to eradicate malaria in Malawi. All three of our primary partners, Somebody Cares, St. Gabriel's Hospital, and Partners in Hope received funds to be used for bed nets and the public health initiatives to teach the net recipients about malaria prevention.

In May and June teams from Baltimore assisted Somebody Cares staff in the distribution and installation of hundreds of bed nets. Whole villages got "covered" by bed nets. The recipients rejoiced over the life-saving gifts. What's the Buzz? funds equipped St. Gabriel's Hospital to be able to completely outfit its male, female, and pediatric wards with hospital appropriate bed nets. Partners in Hope, in combination with a project spearheaded by medical students from UCLA, distributed 700 nets to one Malawian village.

What's Next?
Friends of God's Economy, there is reason to be excited! October 2009 began a "new" season for What's the Buzz? Already one WTB? presentation has been made in a local Baltimore high school. Seniors in the school have adopted WTB? as their senior class project. The entire high school is in the process of raising awareness about the global issue of malaria prevention. Additionally, the senior class is leading efforts to generate school-wide resources for the next wave of bed net distribution through God's Economy. Dates are on the calendar for two additional schools to host WTB? initiatives. A third school is considering when to host a WTB? campaign.

Do you know a motivated teen, or know a school that would like to partner with us? We'd love to share the vision of What's the Buzz? with others. Contact us at godseconomybaltimore@gmail.com and let us know how to reach out.
